Selling my mini soon, got a new job in skipton and need something ultra reliable. Ive always liked CRX's and ive finally found a decent one which will be come my next project!

Going to put it back together over next week, put 12months MOT on it and get it sold. Hubs should be back at mine mid-week wiht the brand new wheel bearings and ball joints.

Here s a bit of the spec...

1968 tax free reshelled.

Turbo engine all inspected, new clutch and seals everywhere. No black smoke and runs perfect, less than 60k miles and can proove it, still have the metro it came out of! new engine mounts etc all bits done. Playmini stainless system.

Spax adjustables aniversary edition with minisport ajdustaride suspension and all new bushes everywhere.

Brand new fully painted up rear subframe and uprated new mounts. Brand new front subframe mounts.

Bodywork, NO RUST anywhere at all, full restoration only just over a year ago, and its been garaged with no engine for 8 months of it! Photos to proove it all. Yaris black group 5 arches and roof (non leaking sunroof!) and toyota supra red body. All new window seals everywhere. mk1 rear light full conversion, and mk1 front grill. Car fully waxoyled top to bottom. Loads of chrome extras, only nice ones tho!

Extremelite 7x13 alloys fitted with very good condition bridgestone tires, chrome studs locking nuts etc.

Remote alarm. Alloy door handles and interior bits. MK1 rear bootlid handle.

Custom dashboard including smiths dials : 130mph speedo, 7k rev counter, oil pressure, water temp, amps, volts, fuel. All trimmed in red leather vinyl, as is the rear parcel shelf.

Half leather rear seat, fronts are cobra classic leather looking black with fully moving subframes. Racing big thick steering wheel on a drop bracket.

No sound system in it, never had one and never wanted one, but ive wired up the connector ready into the new wiring loom.

Anyone wanting to view it is welcome, i live in Keighley, West Yorkshire.

Car will be ready with engine all serviced and perfect in a weeks time, with a fresh 12months MOT on it.

i cant have two cars, cant afford it. I really dont know what to do, i really want the CRX and for whats involved its a great price!

Been working on my mini tonite tho, and its all coming together the engines all fully in now except the intercooler and mpi tank, decisions!!! Gonna see how it goes and have a drive of it, then decide. Been out in my friend Criags RSturbo fiesta tonite with huge intercooler and loads of tuning bits and cam, and its made me want a turbo again! argh

That Crx dosn't sound too apealing to me I like mine nice and standard (Apart from under the bonnet).

Are you sure you want the import 1.5x aswell these are alot slower than the 16v and VT. Now i know you think that youll get cheaper insurance on the slower model. but are you sure!!!. have you had qoutes on the UK 16i-16 or VT. the fact the 1.5x is an import often makes insurance more than the faster UK cars.

just somthing for you to think about

Sgreg is right, I had a 1.5 Dohc Sir Glass top before was as quick as the 1.6 16v but not a touch on my new vtech.

I had to sell the jap import as ins quotes were over 2k, where as the vtech is only ?600 (and thats only because I live in N.Ireland).

Also have to agree, the crx orignal shape is the nicest, I hate bodykits on them, best to mod under the bonnet just.

hhmmm sorry to be pedantic here but:

you said you had the 1.5 dohc sir
this car never existed in japan or the UK

the 1.5x was a Sohc not Dohc

the SIr was the Japanease name for the UK VT and is 99% the same car but with a few extas (Aircon, PAS, ect)

And finally the 1.5x is a lot slower than the 1.6-16i which in turn is almost as fast as the VT. almost identical through the first 2 gears but does loose out slightly in 3rd.

a 15.3 quarter time should covince you of that.

sorry just wanted to get things straight

Argh i didnt know that, i was told that it would be as fast as kris's (my friend who loves his CRX's) last 16v crx. He now has a vtec. I was told its only group7 insurance. Ill give adrian flux a call laters.

It also comes wiht same standard bumpers for hte same car which i would use i hate the meshy ones that are on it.

Can i just ask one thing then, which will be faster, my mini running at 7-8psi or the CRX?

Most 16v Crx's run about 16.0 sec quarter miles, with a top speed of about 130 (On a good day) mine does 15.3 with only a couple of very minor engine mods.

the 1.5x will be a fair bit slower but ive never seen one run on the strip (Or heard the results of one).

as they are NASP The power is very usable and direct and the handling is great. but not quite up to a minis "go kart" standards.

But to be honest I have know idea how fast a mini turbo is as mine isn't running yet. so can't really say which is faster. but i doubt there will be alot in it.

Ah u could be right greg been 4 yrs since I had the import. It was defo an sir though as it had the glass roof, pas, air con, elect mirrors etc. Same as a vtec that would explain the quickness!

I think the jap import model is grp 11 ins?

most of the imports did have a glass roof the guy told me. the bumper and headlights in it are the large vtec ones, ill get the import headlights and import front bumper and bonnet with it.

B12... i think he is!!

Feebs.... keep the mini.... you want a reliable car... you have one already....

i have been driving minis to and from work since i could drive, drove 60odd miles a day for over 6 months and never have been let down once. a freind of mine is doing 200 miles A DAY! in his.

minis are as reliable as you make them.... keep them well maintained and they look after you.

just my 2p worth.

i just remember my last years experience with mini engines, the reason i bought the vtec engine and started on that conversion first! got bored of waiting for AMT though so i bought the metro turbo, thats when i first came on here, because, it, BROKE DOWN!

well seeing it tonnite built up it does look fit, im going to give it a couple of weeks seen as though im insured on it, and see what its like to run.

keep the boost standard, service it regularly and i dont se how it could be any less reliable than any other well maintained mini.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Just think that the metro turbos have usually done a fair mileage 60k or so before things go wrong. Make sure its all in good condition and keep it that way and it will be fine.
In some ways they take a little more looking after but preventative maintanence is the best, you;ve alrady got the hardest bit done, the shell! *smiley*
