Does anyone know of a light 13 inch wheel? I'm tempted by the choice of tyres for 13 inch wheels, but don't want wheels twice a heavy as my current 10s.

Cheers,

Nick.

Never seen their 13 inch wheel. Anyone know what it looks like or where you can get them from?

Nick.

Im sure Minilite would only be too happy to do some 13" rims in their Magnesium compounds

I think fastcarl has been considering making some of his lovely wheels in 13", however the tooling cost is putting him off, however if you guys can convince him there is a market........?

Compromotive indeed to a light single piece.

Image wheels do fairly light 3pc splits

SC (JohnK) I think is looking at doing 13" wheels as we chatted about them at MITP.

Some of the good light single piece 13s as well .... it just that you won't find them from the likes of huddersfield or MWS!!!

When considering the weight of the wheels consider the weight of the package ...... including the tyres.

I haven't actually weighed the individual tyres available but what I do know for sure is my 13" challengers with bridgstone tyres are lighter to pick up than any of the 10" combinations I have had!!!

That said I did recently have to move somebody elses wheels around my workshop and thought I was goign to have to use a crane .... MWS china specials ... make of that what you will.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Near Daventry, midlands

I remember that my old 'ultralights' 13by7's , aussie specials if i remember correctly, were in the order of stones when i lobed them on the scales. I do have the weight smoewhere, i'll try and dig up the weight.

mambas are the lightest 10" rim i've weighed with cobra superslots being the heaviest. Not exactly rocket science if you look a the design.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

I once had a set of Compomotive MLs in 5,5. They were not that bad to be 13s.

However, the car performed a thousand times better on the 6X10s I fitted afterwords

Have you got any data to demonstrate that Vegard? It is never the case in my experience but many people feel they can push the car harder on tens as it approaches the (lower) limit more progresively on 10s than 13s.

Always interested in peoples opinions and even more in peoples datalogs / lap times.

To be honest most people do find the Mini safer on 10" wheels and that gives them confidence to throw it around more. It's not until you get timing equipment on a track that you really notice the improvement 13s can give you.

As you have said before Axle, on the UKs rubbish roads highlight the extra compliance in the 10s sidewalls so they are a little more forgiving than 13s on the back and buttocks too.

No matter how you look at it in terms of grip and precision in handling the 13s come out on top.

Back onto the subject of light 13s I weighed my spare Superlight Challenger (Aussie made one) and it comes in at 7.18KG ... not bad for a single piece road wheel!!!

Looks like there is a few options out there. I'm interested in 13s for the same reason as Roger.... faster lap times. Whilst I enjoy flinging it around on 10s, I want to have comparable grip to the other cars out there on a track day.

So what about tyres then? Any make stand out as being the lightest?

Cheers,

Nick.

Don't know about being the lightest, but for a road legal dry weather tyre the Yokohama A048 in soft compound has to be a good bet, the rolling radius is a little smaller as well.

It handled better, no doubt. A 13" wheeled car might have more grip, but it doesn't handle better. This was a road car, not set up for lap times. It was nicer do drive, to turn, and it was definately faster in acceleration. MEASURED!
