Hi im currently at the stage of running my engine in, its pretty standard with a kent 266 and an rs intercooler, I just wondered what my timing should be as im going to strobe it up to run the cam in, should it be 8 degree's? also my fuel pressure is 3 psi, and this should be around 4 I think, which way do I turn the screw on the regulator to up this pressure, and is it overly sensitive, and one last question, I have only run my enigne breifly to check for leaks etc but alot of smoke was coming out of the exhaust, is this normal after a total rebuild?

Sorry for all the questions but Im hoping to get it running sweet by the end of today,

Cheers, Kav

3 psi fuel pressure is OK really, 3.5 psi maybe better. Turn adjuster clockwise to increase, in any case you need a gauge on while doing any adjustment to get it set right.

It probably will smoke quite a bit depending on how much stuff you have changed.

Yer, I read that before benross when I was searching on here, has it been proven tho, its probably right but I cant afford to run my engine in wrong, is that method not more beneficial from modern engines with "tighter" clearances?

Cheers, Kav

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

The trick is to keep cycling the load .... screaming the guts off it for minutes at a time won't be doing what you want. Follow the instructions and as Steve says .... no trouble.

I have a feeling Candice's MPi's thurst for oil will be traced to being run in by granma when I get time to pop the head off!

Hmmm, interesting, thing I'll give it a go then, so will the boost not be a problem for running in, bearing in mind I have a closed off bleed valve so I'll be limited to 4psi anyway.

It should start and run at 8 degees,I have a 276 in mine and its on 16 degrees,so you may need 10 or 12

8 degrees is only for the std cam

sorry to resurect an old thread but what about running the cam in for 20 mins at idle that i have heard mentioned many times?

Am i right in thinking that the cam will have run itself in by the time the engine is warm? Then go for a drive and drive as motoman states on that link?

Dont run a new cam at idle. It needs 2-3,000 revs to fling plenty of oil around while it wears away any micro-high spots left by machining.

I seriously doubt it!
