Took The DON to the RWYB at York today to give it a run out, managed a 12.79 run in the same configuration at MITP, except with the soft cut rev limiter raised up, it seems my theory that the soft cut limiter was holding it back was true.

Also bumped into Iain of Turbominis who happened to be there with a mate of his, he was kicking himself for not bringing his mini along!

Also tried the gas later on in the day, some horrendous starts and missed gears simply through me trying too hard, but a 115mph terminal on one of the runs tells its own story.

However the day was cut short, as some of you know we had problems at MITP with it blowing a core plug out, this was put down to the sealed cooling system getting overpressurised after doing three runs one after the other. However after running it today, the cooling system was pressurised a ridiculous amount after every run, and required lots of bleeding etc, it seems we have a head gasket problem, so the day was cut short. A shame, as we would have easily won the class we were entered in, the nearest rival was doing 13.3 runs.

Some videos will be up later when I've got them off the camera.

Right Tom, from the notes we made after each run,
run 1 ,all ok,
run2, bogged off line , missed 3rd,
run3 bogged off line , gas in top only,

we did 6 runs in total , but things were just geting worse with the HG, all low 13s but not nearly realising the full potential of the setup.

Low 13's you mean Carl! Low 12's I wish!!!!

Slowest time of the day was 13.267 @ 114.75mph, none too shabby.

Looking through Carl, the 60ft times are fairly consistant around the 2.2/2.3 mark.

Although the run that really takes the biscuit has to be the first of the day, really is a storming run, the best to date, and all without the gas.

Sealed cooling system?

is that solidly sealed or just a very high pressure cap?

how did you measure the pressure? do you have a gauge fitted full time or somthing like a scrader valve fitted?

Tom,

Just an idea you have probably already tried. Have you got the engine and cooling system hot before you cap it, are you running a cap?

Engine i've been doing a lot on lately has a sealed system with no regular expoansion bottle. Uses a small spring loaded piston in cylinder type of volume compensation (bit like an oil accumalator). To set it you heat the engine etc to running temp ( i heat to approx 90). There is a dry break connector on the system that goes to what is basically a water filled syringe. the syringe has a screw thread on the plunger and is set approx midway as you heat up the engine. When its all HOT you bleed rads etc, take of the top up tank. Then set the pressure you want by adjusting the syringe, when its set pop of the dry break and your ready. We run this upto 3 bar as it runs pretty hot.

You even running the radiator ?

All the problems we have had are most probably due to the head gasket, which we finally found today, with the head gasket healthy the car ran at Avon Park with no problems at all, so I'm confident with the gasket sorted the rest of the cooling system should be Ok.
