Ive had enough of having no mini and have decided i want to go get another, but i was specifically after a solid mounted/early one. I know that these stopped after 1970 (something), but was never sure if they finished for mk IV or sometime during the Mk III run. Does anyone know?

How else can you easily distinguish between MkIII and Mk IV?

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

am i right in thinking mk111 is upto 76 and has:

-Solid mounted front subframe-so twin bolts
-Hole in the backseat thingy (upto 1975)
-They had a hydraulic brake light switch (if the pedal box is still there)
-Different bonnet hinge mounts-they were lower down in the bulkhead
-Different switches in the switch panel, some big shiny black plastic things
-Some had little rain deflectors on the roof guttering, this may only be clubmans though
-No heated rear window

mk4 is upto when 12" wheels came in, the main difference is the single bolt subframe, and then the mk5 has the seatbelt mounts in the back

as far as i know all mk3's were solidly mounted front subframes. mines a 1975 mk3 and it definitely is. it mounts with two long bolts on the top of each turret instead of the single big bastad bolt on later minis.

other ways u can tell is the drainage gutter around the roof, on a mk3 the drain holes at the corners are not exactly in line with the seams but on mk4 onwards the gutter breaks exactly at the seam to allow the water to drain (if u get what i mean!)

That's the main difference between a MK3 and a Mk4. The solid mounted subframe.

However, solid mounting brackets are easy and plentiful. Does it make a difference?

Isnt the tunnel different on the floor too? I think mk3s are round and mk4s slightly squared where the shifter hole is.

Mk3 comes as both. They turned square in April 73. This came along with the introduction of the Rod-box.
