Hi, I have recently completed a full rebuild and I'm trying to run in my engine, but theres an odd rattling comming from the clutch area, this dissappears when the clutch pedal is depressed, which made we think idler gear, but if I slightly loosen the clutch cover, this rattle goes away, could this be a problem with the release bearing, because they sent me a funny, self-centering one, any ideas anyone?

Cheers,

Kav

Ps, Its a standard metro turbo verto clutch using the hydraulic mini system, the clutch is all new stuff.

No standard gears, but I dont think its the gears anyway otherwise the noise would still be there when i slacken the clutch housing off wouldnt it? I was thinking it may be something to do with the thrust sleve because the one on my mini's engine had some weird plastic thing inbetween the sleve and the crank, but the metro turbo didnt, could this be designed to stop rattling? does anyone have any idea what im babbling on about? lol,

Cheers, Kav

Only plastic thing I can think of is the dust shield that goes on after the transfer gear casing just in front of the flywheel. It covers the main seal. Is that the weired plastic thing? if so-- No its just there to keep dust off the seal.

no there was a weird plasti thing that sat on the end of the crank and then the thrust sleeve sat on top of this, this was only present on my mini engine however, I thinkI'll have to stop beating about the bush and just take the side cover off, a fair bit of work involved I wasnt expecting tho :(

They have them on the metro turbo clutch too,it wraps around inside the tophat bit that fits onto the end of the flywheel

I like nice quiet girly Minis

As Brian says, it's basically a plastic bush formed out of a strip of material. It should have been there on any Verto set-up (inside the throw out thust sleeve).

Take the one out of the other set up, put it in your new build and it will all go nic and quiet.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

If not, the clutch thrust bearing might be tosh!
