Bonjour

Im toying with the idea of buying a spot welder as:
a) Im a welding retard
b) I have a couple of projects that i wouldnt mind the factory look on

Ive been looking at a couple of those hand held things, are they as easy to use as they seem?

Does anyone here have any tips on what to look for when getting one (single phase), im not wanting to spend a million pounds on one, but ive got 3 cars sat around waiting so itll get a bit of abuse

Much abliged
Nic

I like nice quiet girly Minis

If you can afford one then buy a machine that works out the weld parameters based on the thickness of material between their elctrode tips, makes life a whole load easier if your going from double to tripple sections as you do often on a Min.

I have an old one where you have to set the weld time on a dial and I always find that I have to redo the first weld on a particular section as I've been over cautious with the weld parameters (better than going crazy).

Great tools, well worth the money for restoring Minis.

It'll come naturally to you mate ....

rub the area,
take a firm grip,
squeeze,
wait for the juice to finish flowing,
clean........

*wink*

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

I borrowed one from my mates workplace to do some repairs on the (cough) 205, great piece of kit, as Roger says depending on how flash the machine is you may need to do a couple of practise runs to get the settings right but thats easily done.
Makes incredibly quick and neat work of things, good investment for sure.

Proper test...get some material the same thickness. Spot weld it once, wiggle & twist it until it breaks. The centre of the spotweld should be left on one piece of metal.

Strange, but there is a review of the available spot welders in the latest Mini Magazine.

In the post this morning - should be in the shops in a couple of days.

Saul Bellow - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep."
Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."
