As above. How the hell to you get this stuff to do what you want it to?

I bought proper Rover Deluxe trim from Minispares and thought it was going tough job. But come on, What a PIG.!

Tried using the girlfriends hairdryer, but still it does not want to play.

Any suggestions welcomed.

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cut it to length (leave just a bit oversize to be sure), place in a bucket of boiling water and cover the bucket. Leave it in there until you can put your fingers in without too much pain and use straight away.

Fot really dificult sections use a paint stripping heat gun ... becareful not to damage the finish though!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Mine was a really bad fit and annoyed the hell out of me! But since have found out that the best method is using boiling water as above but use the 'natural' curve of the strip for the tight radius's instead of the arch (mistake I made).

If all else fails this methods works well for me

1) find bin
2) open bin
3) place trim in bin
4) close bin
5) bask in the knowledge that you are bigger and better than a stupid piece of plastic

Lol..I think the delux trim is the worst to fit as it is thicker and less maluable, its tends to crack when bent round tight corners.

The thinner stuff should be easier if you have no luck with the delux. Also depends how your arches meet the sill. Mine used to join at a 90 degree angle and would never be a nice fit!

My brother told me the trick is get it warm and to hold the spool of trim above the lip so it uncurls onto the seam from the bottom of the spool - which I think is a really long winded way of repeating what matty said :)

I still shudder thinking about how hard it was to put mine on. Delux is supposed to be easier to put on but no it's not! Much harder to form into shape. Just persist with hairdriers/heat guns/hot water and it'll go on. Mine tends to come off every 6 months or so though.

Unfortunately its a git and there is no two ways about it, I have used a dab of clear silicone to bond in on in the past as it can have a habit of coming off.

A typical blokes hairdryer won't much cut it - you need a proper powerfull tarts one with one of those nozzley things on the end.

I also start with the thing in a bucket of hot water for a few minutes. Hotter the better!

Once it starts cooling, then you need the hairdryer. Warm to the touch isn't good enough - it has to be so hot you can barely touch it.

Then, let it unravel and manipulate it such that it 'wants' to form into the shape.

I've never personally done the arch trim - but plenty of gutter trims (generally to make a nasty gutter look acceptable - LOL). I'd imagine the arch trim is easier.

It's true, you think a blokes hair dryer is fairly big until you see the girl's one. Gender testing at womens events at the Olympic games could easily be done by asking participants to see their hairdryers and by also asking if they can handle cling film. Only women can sucessfully tear off cling film cleanly and wrap up things without it bunching up!

i had a nightmare fitting these on my old cooper, tried the budget one, fucked it up, bought some of the deluxe convuluted stuff from somerford, and tried it, still rippled and kinked around where the arch meets the body, the bloke at somerford suggested uncoiling and putting it on a straight edge overnight to take the spring out of it, and it seemed to work, so one side of the car ended up being miles better then the other.

Surely the gutter trim is a piece of piss to fit?

Cheers for the tips guys.

Going to borrow my mate’s man dryer to give it another go, while incorporating a combo of everything else.

It will not get the better of me. *angry*

But at least it’s given me a chance to test my full vocab of expletives which has no doubt impressed my neighbours.

I'll post some pics when I actually get the stuff on.

Thanks again boys.

Grrr. Bastard trim, Done.

I just went and bought the rubber trim rather than fitting that stupid trim that came with the arch set.

I Rembered this thread when fitting it.
