I got an alloy cover for it that came with the car,can I use this and drill a lot of holes/cut chunks out of the steel in the car then bolt the alloy one in,or would this effect handling-shell strength etc

I'd agree with Steve, the cover is just that, an alloy cover to tidy it up, I wouldn't cut the crossmember out unless you are going to do something substantial to replace the strength of it.

So if you put a multipoint cage in which is braced behind the seats, down the sills and accross the dash then you could ?

I wouldn't take that out even with a full weld in cage in place .... it's about all that keeps the doorsteps where they should be! Every day is a school day ...........

second what Rodge is saying, plus steve and i will also jump on the Fenton band wagon, that box section is pretty crucial mate if you take it out and take an impact to the side of the car, the intrusion would be pretty horrific i have seen minis in side smashes where the box section has absorbed the impact and channelled it through the car, and let me tell you it makes you pretty damned nervous about being in a mini in a crash :( keep it in bro, lil bit extra weight is a small trade off for ure life

I got two of them in my Mini, one between the B posts and the original one. The bucket seats bolt nicely to them On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

I've cut a big hole in mine to get the battery in. But I do have a tube running down each side of the car, just inside the step, and also a spine down the middle. On 15th May, 2009 TurboDave said:
