I seriously doubt it! |

Normally the staging beams are broken by the wheels and the beam at the end of the track is broken by the font of the car. Of course that doesn't really help but it must be higher up than the wheels I guess. So if you had a car with A LOT of overhang... On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

I remember someone in Oz decided on using a Plymouth Superbird as a basis for a drag car just because of the large overhang the nose cone gives. That plus the massive wing! On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

I cant see how having a large overhang on the front of the car helps with times. You still start from the same position, unless your inspector gadget and your car increases in length at the touch of a button! 1/4 Mile 14.3secs 96Mph Terminal 10psi of boost.

I think the theory is mike that the start is measured from the wheels, so any front over hange is subtracted from the 1/4 mile distance (if that's how it works).

Nic, nothing to do with my car.......I just wondered how much shorter the track is for cars with a front splitter like the DON.
I seriously doubt it! |

Having a splitter 2 metres in front of the car might be taking the piss! :) On 19th Jan, 2010 wil_h said:

the same part of the car breaks the beam at both ends of the track, so it matters nothing what you have in front of the wheels,

At the start line theres a beam in front and behind the wheels which give the staging lights...........so Im led to believe by an ex pro drag bike champion. At the other end its the first part of the car to break the beam be it the wheels, valance splitter or rear number plate.
I seriously doubt it! |

Yay! Someone believes me! I know in most of the tracks in OZ it's as Paul says, it's the first part of the car that breaks the beam on the finishing line, not necisarily the wheels (I think this beam is a little higher). On staging it's the wheels meaning in theory an overhang gives an advantange.
