Well, this is a holding-page-thread for the moment.

I've finally started ordering bits for the mini, so will document the build as it goes.

For anyone who didnt know, this is what happened to the frog:
http://www.dorkish.com/albums/Cars/Mini%20...og_stripped.jpg

so I bought a new shell from Tim, which I adore..

So not really a 'frog' anymore.. but whatever.

So far I've ordered/got:

Replacement T3 turbo
Harnesses
Ball joints (both sides)
Brake lines (braided)
New Exhaust (maniflow single box 2") + downpipe
Tyres (A008's)
Wellers (only 5x10's though)
Pipecross cone filter
Hi-Los

And I need to do a few other bits to the shell, like paint the interior (as its currently rather multi-coloured), paint the roll cage, and have the mounts welded in, fix the windows in position (they're currently just wedged in), make a boot floor (maybe), and parcel shelf, finish putting in the wiring, and probably more things which I've forgotten.

I think that I may have to re-do all the brake lines, since I just chopped the ones on the frog, and didnt save the links that go through the subframes.. we'll see.

I'll try and take some pictures on the way!

-al.

Up to you, if you've got a decent (large) vice and the right socket then its not too difficult. Offer is there though if you want.

Did a few things on the car this week.

Firstly, fitted nice shiney new ball joints.

Fitted the new front braided brake-lines, and connected all the brake-things up at the front.

Fitted the new turbo to the engine (god it took ages, what a pita!, bolts in very awkward places)

and started to think about putting the engine in, hopefully tomorrow if the weather is OK.

Also, the fuel tank wont fit in due to the 'boot floor' braces, which used to carry the fuel cell that Tim used - so I need to get rid of them or get a fuel cell.. not sure which yet *wink* - is anyone handy with a welder and want to waste some time for me?

Here's how the car stands at the mo...

Some pics from today:

One question - isnt there supposed to be a metal plate below these cylinder jobbies? Cant find it anywhere in my garage, but I'm sure there was one!

Cheers,
a.

Hi Alex, looking at the picture of the rear of your engine it looks like the lock tab plates that secure the nuts which hold the turbo to the manifold are missing. This could be a problem a few miles down the road if the nuts start to work loose through vibration, heating and cooling. I would suggest now is the time to address it while the engine is out and accessable.

Thanks NGL - point taken. Added one back, but thats all I've got. TBH the car will probably only do 1000 miles before I get bored and rip it apart again anyway, so Im not too bothered, and will take the risk.

Sorry Ric, I got the tank to fit in the end *wink*

Yeah, was nice out today.. Almost makes up for the fact that I've been slacking all year! *wink* The rest of the stuff I've got to do can pretty much all be done in the garage, except perhaps the exhaust, so I have no excuses now!

Looking at the pics, I really wish I'd spent some time cleaning the parts and painting the engine - I think I'll get busy with the paint brush over the next week or so and tidy everything up.

JK - If I can borrow a trailer, I might bring it to yours for a full geo and corner-weight once it's on the road!
