i think my valve guides are shot so i am looking to invest in some new ones.

Cant comment on the guides apart from sounding pricey!! but my minispares bronze guides seem to be doing very well.

The thing is, if the guides last forever, t he valves don't. Bronze guides eat valves that aren't chrome stemmed.
