I just managed to strip the thread on the nut that holds the rear subframe to the heal board/sill box section end.

I have tried all day to find a slightly bigger bold. bit of threaded bar, and even bar to make a bolt but to no avail. I now have given up on imperial and will retap the 4 nuts to metric size, But cannot find a thickness between m8 and m10, m8 being to small and m10 to large.

Does anyone have access to or know where I could get a m9 bolt as well as tap?

Thanks

Tap and helicoil?

Going M9 means pulling off all the subframe mount blocks and opening these out as well.

Of course - it is your descision.

btw - I am sure M9 does exist.

On second thought I didn't consider helicoiling it. Would that be a feasable option?

That would be a better option as it will involve less hassle.

Proof that they exist! Not a bad price for a rare tap.

9mm does not exist per say, but are available from very specialised suppliers, in 1.25 mm pitch, you can buy a 9mm tap though . it is not classed as M9 , but 9mm fine, only the M should be applied to the standard metric threads, my old pal Norman reaslly has a big bug about this topic,

Drill it out and put a rivnut in,the thread will then be behind the nut that is in there so can't go anywhere

this was the point i was trying to make, it is vehicle manufactureres that introduced thesae bastard sizes for obvious reasons, and they decided to call them "M" whatever,. whioch they shouldn't have done , they should have just refered to them as metric fine.

If you put a metric thread on a Mini you might as well fit a BMW badge at the same time *angry*

I agree. Like m10 fine which is either 1.00 or 1.25.
I dont like odd number metric threads anyway. prefer even for some reason. *tongue*

M9 is an absolute bastard thread. Drill out and weld in new 5/16 UNF to do a proper job.

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

I often open many holes out to suit an M8 (5/16 is 7.9375mm), M10 (3/8 9.525mm) or M12 (7/16 11.1125).

Getting imperial bolts, especially in a good grade around here is almost impossible (unless you remortgage!!!)

Nothing wrong with metric stuff, and it's cheap!!!

I'd not change anything threaded (like the heal board) from imperial though as it's bound to cause you a problem when you need to get a replacement for whatever reason and you forget you changed it to metric ......

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

unless you can readily identify metric and imperial threads at a glance.
