Can anyone recommend a good blowlamp.

I've got seized rear brake adjusters on two of the minis and need some heat to shift em.

Are these things any good?

Thanks in advance.

The kind of thing you've pictured will do the job, I've one I got from B&Q a few years ago that is good enough for the odd un-seizing job.

Thanks.

I just thought, I've always got a bottle of propane and a spare regulator hanging about for the motorhome. You can get some very good ones for not much money.

Otherwise B&Q it is.

Defo go for the B&Q Mapp gas....

This is what air-con guys use for braxing their pipework together.
B&Q had an offer of a kit for £50 for a while...boxed set, with 2 bottles of gas.

if you go for a B&Q one do't get one with the push button to ignite it,

I've got 2, one with and an older one without, the one without is quite a bit hotter, plus the one with self regulates and shuts the gass of after its been on a while.

saying that though, if ypu have propane go for a blow torch reg and bit of hose from machine mart?

Rotherburger mapp gas tourch, trigger ignite, provides plenty of heat. My second choice to oxy-acetylene.

I've got one of the yellow BandQ jobbies and its lasted ages and is well capable of getting brake adjusters glowing red hot if you want it to. I've just got the one that you light with a match, got an adjuster that had been seized for 15years out of a scimitar drum no probs.

However i'd agree that oxy-acet is the way to go.

Out of interest has anyone used the B&Q Mapp gas with lumiweld? as my cheap blow torch doesn't get hot enough (although it is good for crème brulees).

As I say, Air-con installers brazing copper pipe use Mapp gas.... it is pretty hot.

A regular blow lamp doesnt even compare !!

Your right there! you can get good pennitration on 1 1/8" dia fridge grade copper using mapp gas any bigger is a struggle, mapp is ideal for the garage, and what your trying to do, but personal prefference is oxy-acet.
