I think my mini may be runing a little hot,

its got a new supercool 2 core rad, a high cap pump, and 4 blade fan.
it was getting very hot quickly, 3/4 of the way up the gauge.

so i removed the thermostat, it seems to stay cooler for a lot longer now while im giving it a good run,
once i hit the town (not literally) the temp goes up to the same point,

im gonna get an electric fan,
i have checked the timing seems ok
is there anything else i can do beside a front mount rad?

or is this temp fine

I think i have an 82degree stat fitted, two core rad, no bypass hose but 1/8" holes drilled in the thermostat to aid a little flow through while its closed, I think to run without a stat you need a coller "insert" for the head (fits in thermostat housing/head) with hole drilled the correct size to run without a 'stat.
Is you ignition timing and fueling correct? running more boost than before? perrished or split actuator pipework? Have you checked compression?

the std gauges can be a bit misleading,

really you need to stick in a proper gauge, something like a cheap Tim capilery gauge will be a lot better than what you have.

one thing I have done in the past is put in a capilery gauge, used this to give an indication off what the std temp gauge reads, then used the std temp gauge to indicate oil temp.

sticking a lecky fan on is a good idea though.

you shouldn't run without a stat though as this upsets the flow through the block so that no 4 will run hotter than 1.

A blanking sleeve should be put in the place of the thermostat and 80s sounds about right for temp.

Just improve it by putting another leccy fan on for traffic if you arent comfortable, sounds bout right though (For a turbo anyway)

i put a tempriture sticker on the head at number 4 which records the highest temp it gets, it hits 110
but the engine still sounds and runs fine,

the engine was rebuilt so compression is fine,
i am only running 4 psi because it is all so new,
was thinking if i upped that it might help if the air is cooler, as i have a cossie cooler

Even tho the engine has been rebuilt still excersise caution, turbohogster has had no end of trouble recently with a fresh built engine, it resulted in piston failure, it never hurts to double check things, I have found in the past complacency can be costly.

I like nice quiet girly Minis

4 blade fan is less efficient than the standard plastic one in my experience. Also really noisy in comparison!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Never go on the std guages they are terrible, the fact that its heating up quickly shows that the thermostat is doing its job. What you need to be looking for is a quick warmup, desirable, followed by a steady water temperature.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie
