One upon a time (in the North west) I bought a bog-standard 998 Mayfair. It had done around 40,000 miles, ran ok but not perfectly and for £500 was a good buy.
Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Final drive is 3.1 (the whole engine below the head is as it left the factory)

Final drive is 3.1 (the whole engine below the head is as it left the factory) The car is mainly used for commuting and tossing about around town. The commute is all A-roads (no dual carriage ways) and I usually cruise at 70 (indicated). There are two towns on the way and one at each end, which is about 20% of the journey in 30/40 areas, where I generally stick to the limit (well no more than 5mph over). Well, that's even more encouraging given the fact that your not just sitting on a dual carriageway at 70 most the way. More akin to a "combined" figure. On a 3.1 diff as well. I'm hoping for 50mpg plus with the fuel injection - if we can get it to work! I built my NA 1275 with economy in mind with an SW5 and a 2.76 diff etc. I get good economy, 40-45mpg and it's quieter, but it performs like a standard 998. But ultimatley I find driving it slowly to get good economy very difficult. It brings out the teenager in me! Edited by Paul S on 10th Sep, 2007. Building a high MPG mini is something I am interested in. My NA MG mini only gets 35, although now near 38 with the MJ but I am hampered with a 3.44 and 10's and do constant motorway driving. A force fed 998 on a tall diff sounds like the way to go. Good work! On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:
