Hi peeps. got the smallist amount of welding to do on some cast ally. is it possible to do with a ally rod and a blow torch? been given some what is claimed to be ally rod for welding and told i can do it with a blow tourch any ideas?

hmmmm, yes buts its very tricky, find someone with a tig is my advice

I tried that lumowled stuff with a blowtorch.

No chance !!! not hot enough.

The MAPP gas mentioned in another thread would probably do it though....but watch out for distorting the piece with all the heat.

I tried lumowelding a cast sump on my LS1...it ended up like a banana.....although I did have to use Oxy-Acetylene to get it to work lol.

Ended up buying another and having it welded....and it warped again...just not as badly.

Damn things.

I've used the Lumniweld rods with a MAPP torch and it came out ok.

I think that stuff is ok if you want to repair something quite chunky but if you get into big spans, thin sections or worse both your likely to suffer with distortion problems as Stevie said.

TIG is the way forward.

I managed to lumniweld a crack on the sump of my astra, it was a pita though.

if you can get it tigged do it,

got any pics of what you need done?

Ive just got my ally calipers welded up on a tig due to getting them off a miglia with the brakepads wearing marks on the edges.

Machining em tomorrow.

Bloody sods ruin whatever they get their hands on.
