On the retainer, im looking for the right preload. ive torque the 3 bolts up ok.
On the left of the picture below. you have the feeler gauge at 8 thou.

Near the centre i have 4 thou

But on the right side i cant even get a 2 thou in there, its closed right up

The shim i have is a 5 thou.
So what the problem...or is that ok. and would the 5 thou be right ?

just lost my reply for some reason so he is a condensed version.;

always read were the bolts are as this is more accurate as it wont pull up square on a a+ box as there is only 3 bolts.

1 thou shim will give correct preload.

after all boxes have been machined very rarely do you need to alter the shim unless the retainer has been changed.

all bearings are made to microns so there locality never change.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas
