Northern Ireland (ex AUS)

There is someone on here who knows about this (they work in customs) but I can't remeber who it is. I know you pay tax on the shipping as well as the price of the item which I didn't take into acount. Mine worked out roughly 25% with the handling charge (for bigish items) and customs charge added on IIRC.

4.5% import duty, then add 17.5% VAT

And a lot of couriers then add a handling charge. Parcel Force are the biggest rip off in this area.

If you can use, the likes of FedEx....probably the best courier I have used.

UPS....can be troublesome, and duties are C.O.D.

Which means, when the retards that work there, calculate your duty incorrectly ( always too much ) you do not get your goods, until you pay them cash up front.
It makes fighting your case much harder, as they already have your cash.

FedEx/DHL send you a bill later, which makes rectifying duty bills so much easier.....as they want your money *wink*

Parcel Force are just greedy, I avoid them at all costs ( USPS in the states use PF at this end )

speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Car parts are 3% duty steve.

Its is calculated as follows

Value of Goods as per invoice + cost of shipping * duty rate = duty

value of goods asper invoice + cost of shipping + duty + value for vat * 17.5% = VAT

FED EX are gash they are more than likely to deliver the goods uncustoms cleared, then demand cash. I know i have dealt with them far too often for my own liking.

UPS are just as bad except they like to leave stuff in expensive warehouses.

Parcel Farce - just dont

A decent forwarder can sort you something and not rip you off plus clear it properly.
