I plan to use my MPI rad, but do i HAVE to use the MPI hoses or can I use a set of SPI instead - not sure what the differences are.

the location the rad sits in!!

I'm fairly certain you'll be able to find other hoses that do the job if you search the scrappies. The the pipe runs on the side mount spi will be far to short for a front mount rad. Also you'll need piping for a header tank iirc.

SPI has a side rad & MPI has a front rad, so the hoses are totally different as the rads are in different locations. Also the MPI has a separate expansion tank where as all other minis have room for expansion built into the top of the rad, and to be a real bitch the MPI thermostat housing (which you need if you want to use the MPI top hose) is totally different to any other thermostat housing, not only that but nobody makes them (although several companies list them in there catalogues when you phone them they do have any, grr, it took me months to track down mine as most MPI breakers want to sell them with the head).

If you have a look a Moss's web site they have some pretty good pictures of the hoses, sadly they are not Firefox friendly:

Unless you want your engine bay to look as if it had the MPI rad from the factory, I would strongly suggest buying some nice silicon hoses & alloy tube and using them to make your water pipes, as you would with a custom rad install.

PS, just to be facetious it's "require" not "requrie" :)

Yep also i think the mpi is slightly different diameter to everything else.
