what is dry decking? sounds pretty trick to me |

The water ways between the block/head face are blocked & the water is fead out of the end of the block via a hose then into the end of the head.

what is the reason for doing this?, is the cooling better ? or is it something else?

More even cooling and better coolant flow are the ideas behind it.

And if the head gasket blows, all it does is lose compression - you could still finish a race, or drive home.

Sounds a good idea and not too comlicated to carry out either. Another idea to add to the list for the new build this winter! Must get round to getting some bits machined! |

Turbo phil isnt using a dry deck though i think he said, its just a cooling aid on top of the original holes.

Wherever your getting your engine built id say as long as its a competent place. Depends where you are in the country to who you use a bit.

my skills are limited, this will be my first build, i want to build it all my self and learn but the major block work i will get done at brian slark's as i live quite close and have heard good things about his work |
