Who would you recommend to build me a decent gearbox? I am building a track day car so was thinking of a straightcut gearset.

All the major suppliers seem to offer them, but is there any difference?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

I think you should buy a minispares kit and give it to hogster to build, he seems to do good work and are on here.(I have not used him myself)

TranX kit from Min-Its every time till the point you need a dog box then the MED set don't think you need a £1200 dog box by the way!!!)

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

If you want to build it yourself, I can give you a hand, dont forget im only round the corner. They are not that complicated really once youve had one or two apart.

Thanks guys.

Sprocket. Thanks for the offer, I am ramping up activity on the car again so that might be a plan. Looks like a nightmare though :)

It'll be fine, just need decent box to start with. I have a selection of shims and shim steel as well so thats not an issue.

A clear working area would be a good isea as well

if you can get a tans x kit then there are better than the clubman set as 2nd and 3rd gear are easyier to install.

good luck with the build, and im sure mini sproket will soon get it to top notch status for you.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

because the finish on them two gears iss better as the hole on the cone has a bigger hole in it, so making it easier to push in the plungers on the main shaft.

Didn't Tran-X both produce the Clubman and the ST set for Minispares previously?

I know they don't anymore though. I'd buy the ST set everytime because of the extra bearing in the layshaft.

the EVO or ST kit from minispares come with reverse and first gear. The clubman kit from minispares comes without

Thanks for all the input. It was an interesting weekend...

The gearbox I had an angle on was no longer available which sucks

I nearly cut my hand off installing my roll cage which also sucks

Then I got a free 998 engine and box!!!! result.

So I am currently costing up a turbo conversion for that and might build up a full engine and gearbox unit to replace my 1275 NA one. This will probably delay my plans a bit but might be the better choice in the long run. A nice medium compression/low-ish boost 100-120hp 998 engine running on fuel injection could be great fun.

Cheers

yes you are right. When I bought my gearkit 4-5 years ago they where all under the brand evolution. Then they where named clubman and ST. guess that has changed.

I guess the difference is who produced the gearsets at least. That said I think Carl Austin have used ST and JK parts together without troubles. One are advised not to though.
