I've decided to "throw together" a suck through setup on an engine I have lying around a la Vmax. It's a 1340 with "normal pistons" a 286 cam and I plan to scoop the chambers out circular with a mill. The ports will remain standard as I can't be arsed mucking about. The head is a 12HF01 940 unleaded.

What I'd like to know from you lot is what rough settings you use on your BINI Blown minis. ie:- CR, Capacity, ignition timing, fuel and also from people who are willing to discuss how you would go about getting the carb set up without an RR.

Maths isn't a problem. The name of the game is throwing things together here, I want to bung it together and then whack it in. Weld up the dizzy and just give it some boost.

I have no idea how running a long cam is going to alter the dynamic CR and what boosts:cr detonation becomes an issue. Obviously suck through and the resulting fuel dispersion cools the charge a tad but is uncooled by air.

I plan to scoop the head out circular, leave the ports and squish area alone. Weld the dizzy up and set it accordingly. Suck through an HIF44 carb, turn up my own bottom pulley the size I need it. Other than that, it's pretty much going to be slung in.

A suck through boost vs CR would be very handy indeed. I suppose rather than reading off a graph, it would be useful to know what people run as an indicator to what settings I should aim for. If it detonates, I'll just up the octane. I'd like to run 95 as a base though. That way it should be safe on 98.

I'm not going to alter the cam or the cam timing (offset keys) as that is too much fussing. The name of the game is a lash up bung it in job which lasts a while before it shits itself.

Your thoughts please. (I have access to a half decent mill and lathe)

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

Firstly I'd say go and search for things like ignition timing, cam selection and chamber shape advice, that said I'll give you my opinions .... they are just that educated opinions rather than the only way!!!!

Ignition, MegaJolt will do it for you .... locked dizzy not going to give you what you want IMHO

Cam, 286 might be a little long for good drivability .... especially at idle / low running .... possibly worse than usual due to the long charge path to the ports.

Dynamic CR can be calculated easily enough, reasonable guide in the Vizard bible. Remember your charge temps will be high compared to a good turbo / intercooler set up so ultimate boost is limited.

Setting up without a RR, fit wideband O2 and a wing and a prayer. To be honest I consider RR time to be as important as head work on these sort of builds.

Circular chambers whilst maintaining the squish area ...... how are you going to manage that may I ask? Not trying to shoot you down, just curious to the actual chamber shape your going for.

If it was me I'd save a few extra pounds and budget for RR time (not going to be much more than buying a wideband), change the cam to something a little more suitable and go for mapped ignition.

Good luck with it.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...
