how embarassing, i reckon drive shaft has gone, or he has booted it and had one hand on the wheel one hand on the gearstick (prepping for change) the car has torque steered stantched the wheel from his hand perhaps ? bit far fetched maybe

Yep bit long winded, i just captured and uploaded that whole segment. Never spent any time on it.

Anyway, I think it was a pretty standard tune car, but this is what happens when you dont fit the steering column onto the rack correctly.

He managed to fix it after a couple of hours and he drove home!!

Whats the bets that the pinch bolt was above the groove on the splines?

Front end was goosed though if i remember right,

i can top that,

when my car had one engine ,i couldn't remember the last time i had the cloumn off the rack but i was down at Avon park running the car,
on my return to the pits i shut down and opened the drivers door to climb out so, levered myself up with the stearing wheel which promptly came off in my hands with column attatched.

how close to disaster i came i just cannot imagine, i'd been crossong the line at well over a one'r all day.

Went on lakes tour in the start of june and there was a vaulxhall pwred mini. Turns out it never made it back to camp. And took a sleep in a hedge wit the rack pinion snapping. supposedly.




New rules for all tm members:
check steering rack is connected before racing.

do we actually have a list of recommended pre track checks - just for those of us that haven't been on the track before?

Id have thought ensuring your steering column was attached firmly to the rack was one at the top, not just for the track

another would be the presence of shock absorbers, anyone else spot the lack of shock absorbers on Shed Racing's car that kissed the armcove at SantaPod?
