doesnt realy matter mate but i would put the side with the nut in the trans case.

and as for your email the box should turn freely but dont worry to much that yours is a bit stiff it just need plenty of oil round the baulk rings aas they have a tendancy to grab at the cones when dry making it lock up or become stiff.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

Work out which direction the gear rotates then fit it so that if it had any influence on the nut it would be to tighten it rather than loosen it.

That is probably the direction hogster said but not having seen the tread it's best to check yourself.

I have heard tales of these things undoing themselves and wrecking the transfer gear set and box cases. I'd be putting a decnt quality thread lot in there, won't need anything to strong though .... Loctite 242 should so the job but make sure the threads are good and clean / oil free first.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

That loctite would be ok for the job.

I'd put on a lock nut even though it's a nyloc as they can let go with heat and oil. Make sure it doesn't come past the end of the threads on the bolt or else you might run into fitment problems on assembly.

Normally if your going to fit a lock nut you want it to be of equal or greater thickness of the first nut but in that instance, as the first is a nyloc, you should be fine.

By the way have spoken to one of the UKs premier A sseries builders today and he tells me he has seen more of those come undone than stay tight!! He always uses two nuts and thread lock on his rather than a nyloc.

Personally I would go to your local engineering supply shop and buy some decent quality nuts rather than those soft as cheese examples. They would also be able to sell you some Loctite 242 too.

Whatever the instructions that came with the idler says to. Type of nut won't effect the torque requirement as that is all about the loading on the thread.

It didn't come with any instructions.
Would think think it be best to take the nut that's on there, and replace this also.. ?
Or just place 1 ontop..
Cheers rob.
