I think I'm showing a lack of imagination here. I'm off to the US for a couple of weeks working soon, and am struggling to think of geniune worthwhile bargains to hunt down while I'm over there to take advantage of the exchange rate.

The only stuff I can think of is tools as long as I'm mindful of weight, and of course toys for my daughter.

Clothes shopping maybe if I can be arsed, my missus doesn't do perfume, beauty products or jewellery, and with electrical goods there's the issues of power/plug, format, warranty and of course VAT.

What do people shop for? Is it just spending for the sake of it? Am I really such a grumpy old arse as to be even asking this?! :)

Might be worth posting stuff back to yourself and underdeclaring the value?
Megajolt kits,Megasquirt kits, Innovate lc1& lm1. These will all fit in your hand luggage?

If you can't think of anything to buy yourself, then but some cheap rods and pistons for a jap motor - dirt cheap in USA.

Bring em back in your hand luggage and sell em on ebay, make a profit.

Axel has a point - Think of 'heavy-ish' or 'bulky' stuff as the best bet.

Up to you what to decide.

I'd definatlely consider a Miller Dynasty 200DX however - These are pretty much dollar for pound IIRC and will make you a lot of money - or save you a lot if you want one.

Maybe a plasma cutter if you want somet smaller?

Ipods, Apple stuff, and Bose speakers. The prices for these things are like 50% of what you would pay for them in the UK. And from what I hear, all Apple stuff sold in the UK has American plugs anyway...so there is no diff.

Oh man. I survived almost solely on Lucky Charms in my college days. It has so much sugar, they can't advertise it to kids here. It's like 50% sugar marshmallow.

If any of you guys ever wanted any sort of food or small items from the US, I'd be happy to ship to you.

Food is always the thing you miss when you move countries. When we went from UK to Australia we missed all the usual Carbury's buttons, caramac and so on now we are getting all the Aussie stuff sent over here!

Rent a Mustang while you're there-even the cooking one makes you feel like Steve McQueen/Starsky/the Duke boys.
