I have taken the mini for a propor drive today and found it leans out at about 2300 rpm so needs richening up, only a small stumble but really annoying because it does it at part throttle when trundling around lanes.
Rather than consult a haynes manual which I find tells you everything apart from what you want to know I thought I'd post here.

which way clockwise or anticlockwise should I turn it to richen. And by how much roughly? it only needs richening a fraction.

thanks

Dont richen it by turning the screw.

What you do is set the tickover mixture by adjusting the screw, then change the mixture through the rev range by altering the thickness of the needle. Either by changing the needle or 'filing' the one you have.

Don't file it at the thick end once the tickover is set, start about 10mm down which is about where you need to be for 2300 rpm. you only need to remove a small amount, then test it.

It's never going to be spot on if doing it by ear, but you can get close with practice.

Just did this again yesterday..

If you go through this procedure it will tell you if the needle is off. 2300 rpm at cruise will probably be in the 3-4000 rpm range when revving off load, anyway you should be able to spot the lean spot.

Is it actually lean when cruising or does it lean off if you "squeeze" the throttle? If just at cruise then polish the needle.

But I had this problem when squeezing the throttle and cured it by making the engine advance come on quicker, easy with a Megajolt but lighter springs in the distributor also have the same effect. The other thing to try is some thicker oil in the dashpot.
