I have a problem with my cranky old mini, it just seems to stop firing on whatever cylinder it wants when it wants.

This has happened to me 3 times in the past month. I have changed the HT leads and plugs 3 times, each time I change them the car will work, a week later it'll suddenly not work.

It's a N/A 1275 MG lump with the electronic ignition.

Why does this keep happening? I'm getting real f**ked off with unreliable heap of s**t, 3 sets of plugs and leads by 3 different manufacturers and they're all s**t.

Any suggestions welcomed.

What else could it be? Everytime the leads are changed it goes like it should for a little while then its naffed again within a week :(

Ignition module...

The thing bolted on the side of the dizzy. They aren't a Work/Dont Work unit - they can be intermittent.
Buy a BRAND NEW one, and fit it making sure you apply the special heat conductive grease between the module and the body of the dizzy.

Right I changed all the plugs, the HT leads, the rotor cap, the dizzy, the ignition module and it still does the same thing.

Suggestions anybody? I hate this shitty engine, its only done 5000 miles since rebuild and now its constantly playing up.

are you running too rich or lean which is shagging up the plugs really quickly??

Normal light brown coloured, but cylinder 4 wont fire although it is sparking (i shorted the plug out on the engine and it does spark)

When i remove plug number 4 after having the engine running it is soaked in petrol, it just doesnt seem to fire when it is fitted into the cylinder head.

Why is this?

Just because it fires out of the engine doesnt mean it fires in the engine. Its a different ball game under pressure.

Try moving the plug and see if the problem follows it. Then you'lll see whether its an engine problem or just piss poor plugs.

Also swap a lead over (not at the same time as your trying to rule thigns out, one thing at a time). Basically see what makes the problem dissapear. *smiley*

You may have a cracked ignition coil, your problem sounds very familar to me.

I've changed everything already.

New plugs
Ht leads
Coil
Ignition module
rotor cap
rotor arm

Still everytime, number 4 will not fire in the head, everytime I remove number 4 the plug is wet with fuel and the rest are dry.

hmm, it maye be worth doing a compression test, see if no. 4 is the same as the rest. Has this just been put together, or was it running fine?

its done around 5000 miles since rebuild, admitably its been thrashed but surely it shouldn't die yet.

I just went to use my car on friday morning and it wouldnt fire on number 4, although it was working fine on thursday night *crying*
