See picture below. This was the 12.790 second run.

Yellow is throttle angle; 0 - 100% on the left hand y axis.

Magenta is engine RPM; the red band at the upper end of the y axis equates to 9000rpm.

Orange is boost pressure; this is on the right hand y axis.

You will be able to see where I flat shifted from 3rd to 4th gear, analysing the data shows each gear change takes around 0.25 of a second between lifting off the throttle to being 100% open again, so this has to be worth something. You can also see if you look closely that flat shifting means boost pressure isn't dumped, so saving the small amount of time for the turbo to spin back up again, looking at the data shows it takes nearly 0.5 of a second for the turbo to build back up once the dump valve has dumped boost.
You can also see the staged boost with lower boost levels in 1st and 2nd gears is working well.

Apart from that make of it what you will!

Tom,
Is there much configuration to do for the flat shifting? I'm tempted to get my M3DK upgraded to a K3 to give me the multi map facility and the flat shifting caught my eye too.

Regards

Neil

No, its very easy, one input from a clutch switch into the ECU then a few drop-down boxes in the software.

I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a dog-box, though.

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Great datalog .... interesting insight into the engine.

Neil ..... don't think your 5spd will take kindly to being flat shifted .... best take it out, sell it to me for 50p and a SC gearset .... *wink*

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Looks like boost is at it's max at around 7k rpm and that might be a good time to tip the no2 in.
Would it not have been quicker to hang on in third up to 9k and then change gear normally.
Just questions from the log as I know nothing about drag racing!!!

Bargain!! Except like you I couldn't stand the noise....
It was just a thought as it seems to help keep the boost up in between gears

That run was using the gas in second gear onwards, as I mentioned in another post the car seemed a bit down on power on sunday, as the previous best of 12.796 was without gas, whereas that run of 12.790 was with gas. I've yet to investigate where the power has gone!

As for hanging on till 9k and then changing, the power peaks at 7000rpm but is still strong to 8000rpm, after that it starts to tail off quite quickly, hence the shiftlight is set at 8100rpm, and I grab the next gear as soon as I can when I've registered that the light has come on. Shifting at around 8000rpm moves the engine back down to 6500rpm or so; at this point it is making 210bhp, so you are well in the power all the time.
As you can see from the video it is all quite frantic, so there is not the time to be looking at the tacho or boost gauge, in fact I don't think I've ever looked at either during a run, the tacho is useful for getting an idea for starting, and the boost gauge for a quick look during a blast down the return road!
