The hub nut, which do you turn it, anti-clockwise or clockwise to undo it? Ive fucked up my cv joint trying to separate the driveshaft from it, and i hit it in the wrong place and broke the cage.

ok :)

just been struggling tonite, 5 hours solid of trying to fit my new hubs. Collected them from leeds tonite wiht the new heavy duty ball joints and wheel bearings. Completely cocked up, i didnt put a cv boot on one, the next time i didnt have a c clip on one, then i didnt have it lined up right. All in all its been a completely messed up night, everythings gone wrong. Now ive chipped my cv joint trying to break it off the driveshaft, luckily i have another though so ive built that up with a new c clip etc, and now cant get the damn hub nut off! Its not even tightened the guy told me, but i must be doing something wrong! Im going to try get the right sized socket tomorow, ive been using an adjustable spanner like i always do, but this one is ultra tight, thats why i just asked lol!

VERY STRESSED!

had to change one of mine at the weekend cos the bearing had welded itself onto the CV, just held it striaght and gave it one clout with the lump hammer and it popped off, then just had to hammer the CV outta the hub. you'll need a 1" 5/16 socket for the hub nut and it needs cranking up to 150ft/lbs or until the car starts rolling with the handbrake on. its only one of the rear stub axles thats got a reverse thread dude.

the hub nuts can be tight, take the split pin out and just keep trying. I use an air gun and never have any problems

It's just the passenger side rear hub bearing that has a left hand thread...

feebs
I tried to get mine off with a socket and massive breaker bar
I was moving the car up hill with the handbrake on and the nut was still not letting go !!

The only way I could do it was by whacking the breaker bar with a hammer

I think they need to be shocked into releaseing sometimes

I think I will buy a impact driver as that would have no problems at all !

Got it off, took it to my friends house. With the extension bar it lifted the front of the car! we had a scaffolding bar over the end of it for more torque!

We ended up chizzeling it down and breaking it in two, it was air gunned up. Nothing would break it off. I put a new CV joint in, and new driveshaft and now the car is rolling again! Back on track!

Jobs left are...

Wire up headlights.
Put exhaust on (dreading that)
Find the nut for one of the trackrod ends
Get intercooler pipes! Got some 51mm radiator pipes from the scrappers which will work, but will they be suitable temporarily will they handle the pressure?

I undid the cap on the brake fluid topup thing, and squashed the pads in the calipers and bolted the calipers on, when i pumped the brakes up to test them, they have stuck on quite a bit and not released, the pedal travels the right ammount, but shouldnt the car roll? Do i need to do something else?

lol might have to trythat next time!

Worse thing was the ball joints, threaded both top ones and they were brand new heavy duty ones.

Put them in a vice tonite nad precicly sawed (is that a word?) off the top few threads. worked fine! they were a right mess! Never want to do a ball joint ever again, paying a garage next time!
