Can anyone see any down sides to increasing the calliper bolts from 3/8th UNF to 7/16th UNF?

Getting the thread in the upright!

I will have to look at my thread tables as I don't have imperial commited to memory like metric but I would suspect they are different pitches and the root diameter would be enough to get a decent thread in.

Remember that they would need to be done up to a different torque value if you did go that route.

Why do you want to do this Rob? Unless you've got a damaged thread I see no advantage. If it's to repair a damaged thread then a helicoil would be a better option as at leadt you'd be matching thread pitch with the newly tapped hole (fit the helicoil with a decent permenant thread lock).

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Well, the problem would be that the "ear" on the caliper would be weakened. The same goes for the "ears" on the upright. Why on earth would you want to do this?

The ears are pretty chunky so I don't think enlarging the holes by 1/16th inch will hurt too much, what do you reckon?

In the past I drilled out the threads so I could fit fiesta brakes, I'm now going to fit alloy four pots so I need to either cut some new threads or buy some new hubs, and the former is a fair bit cheaper.

Rob, might be able to do a swap with somebody if they are going to do the fester conversion?!?!?!?!?!?!

What size have you drilled the holes out to? I doubt that a 1/16th will be enough extra to get a full route depth back!

M12x1.5 would be my choice from where you are (assuming you drilled it 10mm to get clearence you still have a nats to clean up before retapping).
