austin mini with rover 5 speed box

is it possible to put a 5 speed box from the rover mini onto the austin failing that what about the rover metro gearbox? any help would be greatly appriciated

the only metro which had a 5 speed gearbox was a k series, so you would ne to change the engine too, so possible yes, easy far from it.

so the rover minis only have a 4 speed box then? did they do a 1.0 k series engine?

they did do a 1.0 k-series i believe, but again its a very involved swap as its physically identical (externally) to any other k-series.

you can get an aftermarkget 5 speed box for the a series but you'r looking at around ?1200

you can take the box out of a cooper sport 5 if you can fined one but they are as rare as roking horse poo )

so the later minis did have a 5 speedbox? coz im looking to buy a mini around a k plate butif it is possible to get the gearbox i would consider an older mini

no later minis didnt but they are available at high cost and also they dont handle a great deal of torque, especially what the turbo produces.

no very very very few minis had a 5-speed... mainly jap special editions.

99.9% of minis are 4 speeds.

what u want then is a late spec gearbox with a 2.7:1 diff...

the last MPi minis had that box :) onl;y 4 speeds but a VERY VERY long 4th gear, great for fuel economy.

I'd just get one for the FD though - it does seem material grade used on the MPi gears was 'below par'...
