Gents, i finally have the 998 turbo on the road. Just in time for the North West mini club RR shootout last saturday. It was touch and go if i could get it ready, but the deadline really spurred me on, it was MOT'd and taxed at 4pm on the friday night before the shootout.
Its far from finished development wise. and it wasn't set up but i though i'd let Rob at mini sport give it death anyway *wink*

It got a healthy 81 BHp and 65Lbf @ 8PSI

I have since fitted a bleed valve to have a little tickle with her. but the standard 998 clutch is slipping at 1 BAR. So it set it back to 8PSI. until i can understand which clutch kit to go for?!?!

Can anyone advise on the best kit for cheap dough?

P.S. the RR shooutout is in decembers miniworld.

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

what's the rest of the spec then, is it on another thread somewhere? That's good figures with little setup, especially with no intercooler.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

That's a good point!

Why is there no intercooler! there's plenty of room under that removable front end!

Yeah, IC is next on the list after i sort the clutch.

Does anyone know a good/cheapish clutch kit? preferably under 100 quid

I have a couple of IC to try out see what fits neatest.

Ill take a photo with the front on, its quite a tight fit at the front.

The spec is 998 A+ block
pocketed at uni.
Pistons are standard press pin. 5cc Dish on lathe at uni.
MG metro cam, simplex chain.
Standard oil pump (think this needs uprating)
12g940 ported head.
Standard metro turbo carb, inlet, etc

Custom made manifold and down pipe to bring IHI RHB5 turbo over flywheel housing. It aint pretty (done on MIG) but it works.

Is the grey cover a pre-verto item? If so im running a verto clutch, do i need to change to pre-verto?

With that spec I would have expected a few more bananas, is that at the wheels?

Not sure about clutch, my standard verto is ok on 6.5psi, but that's not much help to you.

new clutch kit something like this http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=32713 is the best you can do wit ha verto as far as I know.

Cheers Will, thats not too much dough either.

Rob suggested i use a turbo dizzy as the advance was far out, and he had to pull the choke out towards the end of the rev range as it went too lean.
I guess thats where the power is then.

But the original idea wasn't for big power, i just wanted to see if i could make my own manifold and also see if i could turbo a 998. So i'm more than happy of where its up to.
I think i'll start making a MK2 version of the manifold, as its a bit restictive. The downpipe is ok so that can remain the same. I can post some better shots of the manifold and downpipe if anyone is intersted in having a look.

right i been messing around with intercooler positions today. I have an idea of putting a modified Mk2 RST one as per the pics.
Will have to weld it up at uni this week.
It will clear the bonnet, but will it flow enough? I intended to put it at the front next to the oil cooler, but the bend from the turbo to the IC would be too tight.

I also fitted my roofrack today, "NOT VERY PERFORMANCE" i hear you shout, but there is method to the madness, the more it looks like an old nail of a mini, the more the surprise when it whips the camels ass!!!

*wink*

I would position it next to the oil cooler up front. If it's too tight, move the oil cooler to a different location and put the intercooler there.

Yeah I'd fit it next to the oil cooler, right in the air flow. *wink*

If your having to buy a turbo dizzy you may aswell go for MJ, as you'll only end up fitting it at some point anyway...lol

With Mj a decent tune up and a well positioned IC I would think 100 nanas wouldn't be out of the question!
