A 998 block can't be used but an 850 can as it has the same bore spacing as a 1275.

850 bore spacing same as 998, 850 can be offset bored to a better degree than 998, 998 can be done but would require the block pocketing. Cost of machining of either is higher than just bolting the head to the 1275 block with the required stud pattern. Thats my educated take on things
