That's cool. I'll see if I can find a vid of diesel combustion from one of our customers mules ..... must have one somewhere but there may be permission issues.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

It is good, but dont you think is running a little rich? orange flame? My colour tune shows a blue flame.

It would also be nice to see the whole cycle rather than 3/4 of the same cycle five times. if youve gone as far as fitting a camera in the combustion chanber wouldnt you be concerned that it shakes so much? Just me being picky

Still its good

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I have a feeling that the video is a simulation rather than the actual thing. It,s nothing more than instinct but the combustion does not seem violent enough and the induction seems odd as well as it appears to stop at full valve lift. Suppose it could be injected fuel that was sitting on the back of the valve.
If the engine had a carb I think it's definetly a bit odd.
( all the above is opinion only)
Regards
Dave

I have just this minuit, at work, been looking at a single cylinder twin cam 4 valve engine that has a sapphire crystal cylinder and a sapphire crystal piston crown. there is a mirror placed at 45* under the special pistin so you can see the top of the combustion chamber with the valves and spark plug. The piston is very long with the lower section cut away to allow the mirror to sit directly under the piston With the connecting rod further down in the crankcase.

Amazing! It took me a few minuits to work out what it was, as it does not look anything like an engine. Its just a shame that they are not running it at the moment, and there is no way i would be allowed a camera anywhere near this place.

I love my Job*happy*

Just thought id share that with you*happy*

Its not where I work, but where I go to do work *wink*

But as you are interested, this job is Shell Technology Center, Shell Stanlow.

My job is in the refrigeration industry. Refrigeration is required to cool the 16 environmental chambers and many more test cells, where they run different engines on dynos to test different fuel and oil blends. Engines vary from test, one offs (as above), to Ford, Toyota and Nissan production engines, as well as aircraft engines.

Testing is not on development of the engines but rather the fuel and oil blends and their effects on engine wear and combustion deposits.

Surprisingly they run a four cylinder engine with two cylinders on a base line fuel and the other two on the blend, to give comparisons.

Just a shame that that i am surrounded by so many engine dynos and rolling roads, that i have no chance of getting to use them myself, but its nice to talk to these people; so many guys who know what they are talking about :)

This is also where the blend the fuels and oils for the Ferrari F1 program. We have a couple of wall mounted AC units in that building but nothing special. You dont get to see much of the blending area as thats a clean room and behind closed doors for obvious resons.

I also do work on the Oil refinary site itself where superheated gasolene vapour straight off the cracker, is used to heat the water to drive the absorption refrigeration machine. Right next to the nasty H2S extraction plant, lovely *oh well*

I get to see many many industries from plastics manufacture, plastics moulding and blowing, luxury cruise ships and pleasure yauchts. I have just this week been asked to go to Nigeria to work on an oil drilling platform, thats in June/ July, but depends on Visas with the currect situation in Africa at the moment *oh well*

Like I said, I love my job :)

Thank you for asking :)
