Tis a bargain.

Sell the supercharger kit and fit a turbo with intercooler and you're away!

Good point, although doesn't suck thru run a fair bit colder anyway? I think 180bhp may be a little optimistic, but still looks like a cracking bit of kit

Its a vmax scart setup and I think they mod the water pump and spin it backwards on there later units.

The 180 bhp spec comes from earlier built engines of this setup which they say on there site have recorded 184bhp.
I own one and it only runs 145 but was developed to use nos (and does), so maybe thats where they come up with that figure.

Hmmm, so is this why they keep overheating, even when driven normally?

funily enough the other night i found a post on another forum where sprocked was saying that the pump turns the wrong way.

make sense that this could cause a problem.

it sounds like a good excuse to go to a lecky pump to me...

Is it me or have you all gone loopy?

There's a standard belt driving the water pump the normal way. The blower is driven by a seprate belt.

the key is "on their later units"

ie MPI setups with the poly belt.

How the fudge do you be an ebay member for 3-4years, have zero feedback, and your first 'purchase' is a 3grand engine?

LOL at Dave

The Vmax water pump, in my opinion is a problem. Even though the impellor may have been modified, the volute is still the same and going the wrong way. I have heard quite a few of the supercharged engines running these pumps to sufer overheating at motorway cuising speeds. I believe it to be the pump cavitating. Its a fudge rather than a fix. In my opinion.

I went loopy a long time ago and I do have seperate belts driving my charger and water pump/alternator, but here's a link currently active on minifinity forum

http://www.minifinity.com/index.php?name=P...er=asc&start=40

And here's some of the text from page 2

One thing that surprised me about the MPi is why Rover mounted the fan infront of the rad instead of behind it. The only reason i can think is that it left enough room for the AC compressor on Jap models.

Daft really as the convention is to mount the fan behind the rad so that it does not impead the flow of air through the core. As most of the UK model MPi minis do not have AC there is a huge space behind the rad where a fan could easily be mounted.

If it were me, I would be trying this to see if its any different.

On another note, I was surprised, when I looked at Andy500's car at the Minisport RR shoot out, that Vmax scart run the water pump in the oposite direction. As i have not see the internals of this pump I cant comment, but if its the standard impellor, Id be inclined to say that the water pump is not working to its most efficient. The inlet port is still in the same place and that, for the pump in counter rotation, is a problem already. Anyone got any pictures of the impellor on these pumps?

Sounds like electric water pumps are what is needed. I never heard problems previously, but the sudden change to 'overheating' once the pulley direction was reversed (in spite of pump mods) is too clear that all is not well with this technique.

All credit to Vmax for marketing and developing (not plagiarising) his kits, but this evolution sounds flawed to me.
