too many pics to post here

In short a 1990 mini in need of complete resto, turbo stuff is all in my shed so no pics but will get some. Bought it about a month ago, just finished stripping now

Virtually needs 1/2 the body replaced, but hey its a 2-3year project the panels are still only 3rd the price of a new shell lol
good job i enjoy welding lol

To replace :-

Sills, outer and inner
Full floors
Inner Wings
Bootfloor
Scuttle
1 Side panel
Crossmember
Heel Board
1 Rear wheel arch

Oh and rear subby lol
Shame im using a 1293 engine, the 998 is a refurbished one, so ill make a good spare

Wow, You're certainly not afraid of a challenge! Makes me glad I got to the rust on mine when I did.

Good luck.

lol no worries, whole mini was only £200 to start. Besides like i said is a few years project, id rather do the shell myself and know its solid and rust free when im finished.

get stuck in - mine needed the same sort of work and now I'm just waiting on it coming back from the painter. It will give you so much more satisfaction when it is done.

I concentrated on one area at a time and wrote a list of things to do in that area only then scored through as each item was complete - it was good to see lists getting shorter and helped me get on with it.

Good luck mate! Just coming to the end of a similar repair job, it's taken me about ten months or so to get the shell welded up solid. And that's with cheating using a fibreglass front!

There is no sense crying over every mistake- you just keep on trying til you run out of cake.

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Webba .... there's life in the old girl yet. TBH it looks like any Mini I get to see over about 10 years old that hasn't always been owned by an enthusiast!!!

Robs tip is a good one ..... just remember to write the list on the next section to be done ...... cutting the list out doesn't count as getting to the end of it!!!!! *wink*

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

lol i know, great bodge aint it! lol! I knew it was rotten when i bought it but i took a chance, the engine/front subframe etc is worth what i paid for it anyway so worse come to worse id lost nowt. Besides it fits my resto plan perfect, it wont really start till june anyway.

The other bodge i love is the fact the sills are brazed on with gaps i can fit a finger in!

Hey Webba you aint far from me :) I'm just outside Bishop Auckland so I'm only a few miles from M Machine too, I used to be a regular there when I had my last mini! :)
The one I have now sounds like it's in much the same condition as yours mate! Only I'm too stingy to pay for all the panels so I've just bought a shell thats just been done ready to spray. So at the moment I'm stripping mine down, kinda fun really ripping the interior out and and stuff lol. So when the new shell comes it's getting sprayed and then it's a full rebuild! Am busy planning the engine rebuild at the moment too so that I know exactly what to do when the time comes to start. And I'll have a decent spare too because the one in it now is a 998 with only 15k on!! *wink*
I'll post a couple of pics when I get chance.

cheers for the replies. Project is esentially on hold till next summer anyway due to funding needed elsewhere (wedding) DemonPixie, thats cool I cant afford a new shell lol!, even with all the repairs and panels mine will still only be less than 3rd price of a new shell. I work in Ferryhill so quite close to auckland!
