I currently have standard solid discs with metro 4 pots up front and standard rear drum setup from an '83, no servo and standard weight saloon. Engine is 1310, hi boost head, phase 2 cam, running about 10psi.

Will this brake setup be sufficient for fast road driving, occasional to and from work commute and no track days (at the moment) or am i going to have to go to vented?

I used this setup on previous standard MG Metro n/a engine and brakes were superb.

Cheers
Rich

I would say that setup is well up to the job. It depends if you are heavy on the brakes.

The only thing you can do now is use them and see how it goes. Obviously make sure that everything is in good order and that the brake fluid is no too old.

Sounds exactly the same as I had on my old turbo min and it was fine.

Never had an issue with GreenStuff pads even when I was using the car to commute back and forth from London so there was at least two examples of motorway speeds - to - standstill every day ..... never a problem!

Then again my car must of weighed about the same as the moon, 4 (yes 4!!!) layers of genuine Rover sound proofing under both front and rear carpets (W&P super thick lux carpet too), extra heater matrix, Cobra daytona seats in the front, full interior, full SD cage (rear diag. not fitted most of the time) and a stereo system .... not to mention the single piece 13x6 wheels (each the weight of a planet according to some).

Was great on the road , fine on the track too as it never once faded on me!

How heavy or how fast you have to be travelling to need vented discs is up for debate.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

EBC pads are horseshit in my experience using them, wouldn't touch them again.

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

ebc are shocking, though i do have them in my car at the moment

However thats because my 2nd hand mintex's were shot and i couldnt afford another set of pads, so i dusted them off from under the work bench where they had been thrown

my car is turning ghetto

Get some mintex m1144's on there

and you'll be fine i was on std cooper s and std pads until i made a master cylinder f-up

I've got them on two, and driven one :)

I was infact quite satisfied with the green-stuffs as well..

Must be a personal taste thing here, proving there are no "correct" answers to the question, but I really don't rate Mintex at all .... I'd catch the bus before fitting 1144s to any car of mine!!!
