Ive just been pondering how to make an a-series engine quieter... apart from the obvious exhaust and air filter. What else could be done to decrease its noise output?

Items off the top of my head:

Alloy Rocker Cover
Balanced Crank
Timing Chain Tension.

Belt drive cam.
Carbon push rods
Properly shimmed drop gears
Ask Rodger M about soundproofing the cab.

And sugar in petrol.

Oh and potato in exhaust to quieten it. A banana will suffice.

Actually, although I know Danboy is taking the mick I did get my cabin to be very quiet ..... more than happy to advise.

Remember a large part of why the MPi has a 2.7 final drive is for lower drive by noise ......

Yes, because the 2.76 diff makes it sooo slow it barely manages to drive by at all!

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

Roger...did you cover the cab in old egg boxes etc??? *wink*
Personally I like mechanical noise. You can tell if somethings wrong early on..wheel bearings etc is just an example

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Geee, you must have no torque at all ......!!!!!!!

Candic's MPi drives beautifully on it's standard engine, box and final drive. Quick enough to upset a few of the GTi boys in the process around town and the twist lanes of the Cotswolds.
