hi

i have a clicking noise from my car when accelerating / rolling on, it disapears when going round left handers or if i swing the wheel to the left, just jacked the car up and rotated the wheels by hand, the noise is apparent when turning either wheel, seems to be coming from the diff (uhoh!) and when turning the n/s wheel it seems to stick sometimes (not the brakes either, i moved the pads to make sure)

what am i looking at? new diff or just bearings, and can the diff be replaced without removing engine and box?

How about Cable ties on your inner CV's Catching ?
Or could be just worn Inner CV;s ?

Or probably completely knackered wheel bearing .... ( i rekon its this !! )

wheel bearing was my first thought (and hope!) cable ties fine, one inner cv does look knackered, but its the wrong side!, noise is deff from the diff area somewhere, had my head right by it

tell me bout it!

gonna try and disconnect the driveshafts from the box and just turn the end of the pot joint in the box, see if it still clicks, if not i know its driveshaft related (fingers crossed!)

u def sure about the cable ties... they dont work well with mini hubs!!! Use wire or the correct steel band types!

Inner pots can make a pretty bad noise... I changed one of mine last year, and now the other is on the way out!

right, i feel a bit more reasurred now! started to investigate tonight, took both shafts off and turned the end of the pot joint in the box, neither side sticks and doesnt sound rough, also compared it to a spare engine i have and they both feel / sound the same and i know this spare engine had a good box when removed

found out why the n/s kept sticking, cable tie , inside the pot joint getting caught up in the joint lol!

also had a curious mix of half metro and half mini pot joints

so me first thing to try is a pair of pots and see if that cures it, if not, im working outwards and wheel bearings are next

deff convinced (ish) that its not the box or diff, it still manages to put full power down

LOL see I said are you sure...

I had exactly the same problem and it took me AGES to fine, I couldnt believe it as the CV kit I brought from Mini Spares came with cable ties!!

If it was the box or diff yo0u would know about it!

no, it was the cable tie INSIDE the inner cv that was catching! thats why it was sticking when i turned the wheel, it was getting caught up in the joint!

All the ones outside are clearing
