Hi,
I've just got myself a side mounted seat for the mini and was after some advice on fitting it. I've seen pics on here before but the search isn't coming up with anything.

The ones i've seen have welded in bars going across the car, is this the best way to do it? or can you just spread the load underneath somehow.

I'm not using it for any kind of motorsport but want it mounted as firmly and securely as possible. Any pics or advice would be great.

Thanks
Calum

I have just welded a plate around each bolt hole, to spread the load. Thats allowed in Norwegian racing (FIA) at least.

Hi

I got some 50x50 plating from engineering supplies and used 4 in total.

One under each corner with the bolt going through and one in the same place on the underside of the floor pan.

The plates on the door sides of the sidemounts can go straight on, but the others need bending to take the contour of the exhaust tunnel, on mine anyway.

Dont have any other pics but you can see one of the plates here at the back side underneath the sidemount.

So, just some spreader plates round the bolts will do it?

I was under the impression the floor was a bit flimsy for that. Do you find the seat moves around at all?

Thanks
Cal

1st gear is a bit of a grab for me when strapped in the seat but dont really have to strain to reach it sort of thing.

Ive got a kad quickshift though, not sure if its taller than the standard gearshift making it easier to reach anyway?

Going to mount the selector box inside too which might make it easier to reach. Seat is perfect feel for me how far back it is, im 6ft 1" and my arms are just about bent when on the wheel

Dont think you can have the sidemounts any further foward than the back of the member as they are flat and need to be bolted to the floor.

Could always go with tailored subframe seats? As they use the original mounts on the front side of the beam.

not sure if you can really tell but in one of my minis i have side mount seats, bars welded across with the seat mounts on them, the front mount is on the xmember.
pasanger seat is mounted behind the cross member tho

front section on the cross member

rear section on the welded in bar ( i have had my exhaust tunnel widened but shouldnt matter really)

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

In my old car i bent the floor around where i had put plates unter the bolt holes, so on this one i put some big plates in

about 1/2" wider than each subframe front to back and then tacked to the floor

The floor is doing well so far
