What is the best turbo to go for to put onto my modified 1275 block (when it's done!) bearing in mind I don't want to pay loads and don't mind it being second hand to overhaul if necessary. I have never dealt with a turbo'd mini before and I need all the information for when the time comes for the build to start. I know I'll have to cut away part of the bulkhead but I need to know my best options for which turbo to go for and where to get one! Also I've read a lot about mirage manifolds, whats the deal with these and whats the best to go for?

Cheers

Cheapest option is the T3 off the metro turbo as they, and more importantly the manifolds are available second hand (look on ebay).

You should be able to get the whole setup for about £150. The rebuild kit is around £50.

For this option you will need to cut the bulkhead and fit a box. Speak to milamber, he does an extra large one that's perfect.

The other option is to go for a mirage setup. This is a stainless manifold setup that costs around £350. You'll need to source a T2 / T25? (correct me if i'm wrong).
Benefits are 1. less lag (depending on turbo choice) 2. no cutting of bulkhead. 3. water colling (again this depends on turbo choice)

Have a look at Nic's car for an example of the Mirage setup.

I hope this helps you decide.

This would be a good option if you wanted to keep the cost down. £120 and it includes the carb.

That seems a good option .... but thats not an engine is it ... it's just the torbo set up? What I was referring to earlier was this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...:MEWA:IT&ih=002

You have it advertised on a thread in ebay items for sale.

That engine is not mine, I was just making people aware of it as it's going cheap.

Beware, the pistons may not be up to handling boost. Find out what they are before buying.

That turbo set up you showed me .... would that go straight onto the block with the parts that come with it? And what modifications will I need to make to the block to accommodate it?

Cheers

This is a T3 apparently .... will it fit a mini?

Yep, it'll bolt right on up.

It won't work though - and as it's not a Garrett it'll probably not even last.

As you're a noob - I can heartilly suggest checking out the approprite section:

Also, check out www.turbo-mini.com

No I think turbodave was talking about a turbo I linked to on ebay, because it isn't a mini/metro one.
Oh this is getting confusing lol!
Anyway in a nutshell I'll need a turbo that can go straight onto an A series engine with the usual mods to apply.

One thing that is worth considering is that if you can't weld and your are having to pay for someone to weld your bulkhead box in, then it could be worth going mirage setup as it could work out to be around the same price. *wink*

Ah you see I know a clever little man who can weld and do any machining for me and he'll do it for the price of a cuppa or such like lol! *wink*

Well, in that case - you need to go the tried and VERY tested route, and purcvhase everything as it was/is fitted to a metro turbo.

And a bulkhead box off user mlamber.

Bosh. Job done.
