just gauging some intrest on these guys,'ve had some manifolds made,

most of you if not all will know what these do so no need to gointo that,
now all i want to know isifit would be worth while getting a large batch made up?say 20+ for now?
it would bring the cost down.
im picking up another one tommorrow with a 'screamer 'pipe coming from the elbow, which is optional,as are lambda sensor bosses.

iain what do you think could have been done to improve your manifolds? are they reniforced as per fisrt pic?because my set were crap imoo and they cracked along the top, also what do you think of the down pipe?

these are better product than mirage manifolds ,im sure alot of you have seen mirage manifolds?they are not an amazing quailty product.
now if im wrong please say, mirage have used the only possible design to allow some one to use a t2 without cutting bulkheads?so is it wrong to try to improve on a product?
and at £250 for the whole kit its alot cheaper too

I see it this way. If Mirage hasn't sort of protected his product in any way, it isn't illegal to copy and sell. However, it would take quite som nerve to do it, and I bet that you won't have many loyal Turbomini customers. BTW, the pipe that goes from the ports are angled 45 degrees downwards. Not good if you're supposed to sell a superior product.
I'd check with Mirage first, you might end up with som legal issues if they've patended their product.

I think youll get away with it, so long as your not selling them on a large level 1 or 2 to friends ect. Id just be careful like Vegard says.

You get competition in every product for sale, why not here? IMO as long as its legal i cant see the problem.

This is just a poor excuse for a blatent copy. There are lots of different ways to acheive this. As for improvement, there are many ways to improve the mirage IMO, but what has been done here as not addressed any of them.

Fine make one for yourself and friends, but selling on here is not a great idea.

how many companies sell supercharger kits using the bini charger and an SU on a bit of exhaust pipe just like vmax?

what about those KAD style quick shifts that fall apart the first time you use them?

or the vast array of super minifin drums that arnt super minifins

i dont like it but it happens all the time. the original designer ends up getting shafted for his design costs and eventually if this carrys on no one will design stuff as there's no money in it

Agree with benross and turbo shed everything gets copied if its any good! Its one of them things at the end of the day you pay your money and take a choice! If its wrong to sell these is it wrong for jason to sell the bulkhead boxes?

This is a touchy subject - and I am not surprised it's finally happened.

Personally - I'd have had a LOT more dignity about myself however, and certainly NOT used the companies name that you have copied in the TITLE of your own advert...

With that said - I'd expect that this post could be locked if someone wanted it to be.

However - if you as a private individual - put up a post mentioning that you had made manifolds that allowed the T2 to be fitted without bulkhead mods - and if anyone else could be interested in a set to contact you..... Well, that wouldn't likely get folks on the offensive like this one does.

End of the day - Mirage ones were developed, and Rich has made coin off them i suspect. This fella has plagiarised the design, and is undercutting the original supplier. Welcome to the world we live in.

Myself - I couldn't justify 350 quid on a set of manifolds (which at todays exchange rate makes them VERY expensive to me). I've already got a jig to make a manifold to put a T2 onto an engine without bulkhead mods - and I'll be making my first manifold over Winter for a friend over the other side of the state... I get to hone my Tig skills, he gets a set of manifolds to do the job.

I note your comment:

"mirage have used the only possible design to allow some one to use a t2 without cutting bulkheads"

However - I do think part of the problem here however, is that you had - in your possession - a manifold from mirage, and possible have allowed this to influence your design. However - you have made changes (improvements?) so again - it isn't a like-for-like copy.

The public will ultimately decide; And a comparison between the Moz and Mirage manifolds will no doubt appear in due course.

Good luck I say. But don't expect the same response form others.

Indeed.

Avonbar marketed the first bulkhead box, which was (I understand) first drawn up by Stuart Gurr (now VMax) whilst he was at Avonbar many years ago.

The box was latterly copied and made cheaper by MiniSpares (I'm sure many on here looked at Avonbar for 35quid, and chose minispares equivalent for 25 quid).

In 2007, someone (Jason) FINALLY does what no-one has done before, and improved on the original design - making it a little lower, and putting a slant on the bottom so it doesn't hold water / oil / crap. That should be selling for 40quid given the other prices - instead it's 15 quid or whatever the TM rate is.

You will however, note the difference in the way Jason 'marketed' his parts *wink*

I think you have hit the nail on the head there, as ever, TD. In principle I welcome competition and the consumerism way of life. I am all for quality at a lower price. However there is a reason what washing power adverts always compare to the 'Leading Brand' and not to a named competitor.

Did Avonbar produce the first bulkhead box, or were they copying a design made by ERA?

I wasnt having a go rubicon. But like others have said the way the advert came across was that you had mirage manifolds, copied them and flogging them cheaper.

I'm not denying that the mirage manifolds dont need some improvement, some of which may be done i dont know as i got a fairly early set.
