been having a bit of trouble with me car recently, its been smoking like hell on the motorways, and throwing oil out of everywhere, ie: breathers, filler cap, dipstick hole. it only does it on boost though. i kinda thought one of my piston rings was a little dodgy so does this back up that conclusion? as i can sit on the motorway below 3k rpm and it runs fine no smoke/oil loss.

anyway just took it out tonight and it has no power at all and is making a horrible ticking sound, like a really bad blowing exhaust kinda sound? is this likely to be my heaad gasket? i'm pretty sure my old 1275 did the same kinda thing/noise when that one went. plus i was ragging it on saturday at a track day.

Cheers all, Nick :)

Any engine that throws oil from the breathers is shot. No exceptions.
Fine, and will still last many years if it's a lazy big diesel engine in a tractor, but a turbocharged performance petrol engine? no way.

get to a scrappy and buy a nice running 1275 from a metro (?50 - ?100 tops!)

Swap all the external ancillaries over and you're motoring again in a weekend!

yeah, ive already got the bargain pages infront of me :) does it matter what 1275 i use because of the CR's? would an MG be ideal? i'm only gonna be running 4.5 psi still anyway.

if anything, DON'T use the MG engine...

A nice, low stressed 1275 from a low mileage metro is all you want!

nah, i'm using the original MG turbo fuel pump, might have a whole new turbo lump for ?120 only done 30K miles too, so should have a spare turbo if the dudes still got it for sale.

Alex there's no way im giving up now, i was expecting this engine to go pop anyway, just hoped it would have made it a little longer.
