Is the ridge in the cylider head thermostat housing important? can/should I grind it down?

Well, that's where the thermostat fits, and there is absolutely no reason NOT to fit one. Why do you want to remove it?

Vegard is wrong again. The thermostat does not fit all the way in there by the arrows does it Veg.?

Crap, I didn't see any arrows.. I f you look at the "rules for this forum" it clearly states that "arrows used for pointing out stuff" must be red.

As these are of some invisible ink-stuff. I cannot comment.

However I've previously removed the ridge down in the thermostat housing where there on this picture seems to be some small white hairline cracks.

I've removed that in the past, but it has got me thinking if they are there in a swirl kind of way. Not sure..
