hi i got a question that i'm not to sure on the answer on and i've searched on here but cannot find it.

when you do a front flip and you fit brace bars. what benefit do they add or are they purely for MOT purposes?

They will help on all structal mounts on the front. Obviously when you have NO front valance to bolt to and inner wings for strentgh, you will NEED to strenthen it.

ahh ok just my mate is fitting coil overs and had to remove them and dont think is planning to fit them back on.

he has a r1 engine in the front so not that heavy and all solid mounted and from this post we found (below) think he will try it. says he can jump on it and it does not budge

I'll tell ya something for free... .... love that sayin .... Brace bars do little to nothing by way of supporting the subframe, and they also are useless if you have an accident. Most migiligaliga a racers, don't even use em, cos when you soild mount the subby (which you should be doin) that subby ent going anywhere. Brace bars are only there to convince the MOT man that the car is still safe, thats it. So as long as you make something that looks fairly strong, it'll be fine....but i have my doubts for a road car

If you want something thats gonna be protective in an accident, look at where the bulkhead is strongest, ie the cross member , and fabricate something that goes round infront of the engine from there, and keep it at that height too. Obviously theres more to it than that, but thats probly a good starting point.

Jumping on it and saying it doesnt budge means fook all to be honest. Try subjecting it to the loads it will recieve from being driven down the road!

If it didnt need brace bars then the subframe wouldnt need to be bolted to the front valance with a steel front as standard.

Personally even if there wasnt an engine in the front, and it was solid mounted, with a flip front id still fit brace bars. Removing what would be the front mounts means you need to compensate for it somewhere else, ie fitting bracings to stop everything flopping up and down (even if it is a little bit).

Fitting brace bars isnt a big job at all, it would also mean the "solid" mounts wont be subjected to as much shit if the front of the subframe was supported with the brace bars:)
