a LIL fishing village on the coast - Newcastle Upon Tyne

my youngun has been asking me for ages to build him a trainset, i have tonnes and tonnes of track locomotives etc etc but i dont know where to start, do we have any anoraks amongst us who can point me in the right direction, i have tried the hornby page but its shite ! unless you want to buy stuff that is.

my base board will be on a hoist which can be raised to the ceiling, its mainly track layouts etc etc.

cheers, Tom i wanted a bit more than a loop for him, but didnt know where to start, 99 % of his rolling stock is freight

just wanted to make it nice, trying to figure out about remote points etc etc. without having to go digital.

so i move house loosing internet access and you lot start talking about Trains and I miss out in replying

Trains rule....the horse power...

Nickle silver track is the way forward for track, try and go for the largest points you can fit in all locations as trains will prefer these.

Think about a couple of headshunts for interest, so you can make a train up.
A run round loop or two with capacity of 4-5 coaches as it's on a base board.

cheers, i was going to weather the track with an airbrush, pending on how Nathan decides he wants to play with it ie "De rail and head ons" dont inspire me much, but he seems to be looking after the ones i have got him, just got him another Loco yesterday with a smoker unit in, quite cool !

the magazines in WH SMith in the Metro are a good starting point. I collected a few Trucks (Mainly as there Consett Iron Co ones from where i live) good site for scenery ideas http://www.nevard.com/modelrailway/
Failing that get a big garden railway, they look mint G Scale I think there called.
