Well here it is, after years of wanting one I finally had the money, and the right car came along at the right price. I paid £8.5k, it's done 47k miles. It's a Spec. B, so its 3.0 litre and 240bhp, bootiful.

Nothing against what John K is flogging, but I reckon this better value for money than some fancy TI parts for a mini and a few extra valves.

My old one is now for sale for £3k if anyone is interested.

To be fair the book price for an 04 Spec. B estate is around 13 to 14k. This one happens to be a Cat C insurance write off. It got flooded. the underlay is still abit wet, but otherwise the car is spot on and in great condition.

Wow, didnt realize you had that much of a discount.

Im sure it might smell a bit, but its not like you're shy of spanners, so you can always whip the interior out to dry for a few days.

looks good and a hugh saving.

if i was you id take out all the computers and black boxes, open them up and check theve all dried out. ive seen a lexus that had been in a flood and things just kept packing up one by one as the water festered in them. unless its already been done.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Looks a nice motor Wil. Tell me more about the old one, I may know someone that could be interested, miles, engine, mpg, that kind of thing.

Congrats on the purchase! If the carpets are still wet, you will want to make sure there is no mold growing down there.

Well it dosen't smell and all the electrics are working fine. I can't find evidence of water above the transmission tunnel, so I think most of the electrics should be safe.

As for the old one Tom, its a 2.5 GX (LUX). This basically means it has all the goodies. Mileage is 111k and it has a FSH. MPG is 27 to 30 (I got 34 going to Le Mans).

Good! Enjoy the car.

If the moisture doesn't want to evaporate in a timely manner, throw a sock full of kitty litter into the car. It'll absorb it's weight in moisture in a few days.

how well do the scooby's take the miles? I used to keep buying low mileage cars as I do a fair few miles a year (current car has done similar miles to Wolfie) and all i've done is lose money in depreciation. Now take the view to buy something that has already got a few miles on it and let someone else take the hit first. obviously it only works if it will run well into the 150-200k without any great issues.

My Audi has done 153k now, 17k since I bought it just over 12 months ago, my view is why bother buying a low mileage car when you are only going to rack them up yourself, I'd only pay the premium for lower mileage if I was looking for a second car that wasnt going to do many miles a year.

Wil I'll tell my mate about your Legacy.

I have to agree Tom. 110k for a car these days is nothing. When I bought my Citroen it had 110k and now has 170k. I do between 15 and 18k a year in it so why bother paying for a low mileage car.

Wil's old car is very nice, he is only changing it because the 2.5 is too slow for him and a bit of a disappointment after his old Legacy turbo. It is not slow, but his new 3.0 is a lovely engine. It should be noted though that it is still not as fast as my Saab, so there......

all food for thought. I bought the audi at 54k which was far less than most on offer but I did pay a premium for it. Its now touching 90k 16months after I bought it - pretty much where most of the other offerings were at the time but a good few grand less.
