Hi all, I have an engine that is supposed to be a turbo engine but im not sure if it is or not.
Can you please tell me things to look out for to check it is infact a turbo engine ( it has no engine number) My friends dad said there shoult be a T stamped into the head somewhere and that the stems of the velves on the exhaust will be thinner than the intake, is this true?

any givaways on the block to look out for? The pistons are dished but i think the ones on the standard 1275 are dished too.

Cheers
Mike

Easy first checks:

Remove rocker box and take a look at the valve stems - the exhaust ones will be slightly larger OD than the inlets.

Engine - unlike all nat-asp metros, one of the bolt holes where the engine steady locates in a mini will have had a thread in it for the oil pipe, and hence won't be full of rust and crud.

Turbo piston will be 20831 - but you might not be able to see this clearly.

thanks for the replies guys. ill check and let you know the outcome.

Turbo shed: it didnt come with anything, just block head and gearbox so no turbo hangin off the back.

I noticed a number on the pistons so i will check if it matches.

Well if you've read the thread that Phil kindly posted then you'll know by now that the turbo engine is nothing special. In fact in some respects a less abused non-turbo engine is a better base for a turbo build.
