They are drag tyres. Soft sidewalls reduce shock loadings to the contact patch, which = much better traction.
9.85 @ 145mph

They dont go round corners on a front drive car, have tried them on my five! They are brilliant on the strip though! |

Top fuelers also have a clutch which allows for infinismal increments of slip the whole way up the strip until it locks up near the top end leaving a 1:1 drive through a tall diff. It's a nice set up but the clutch is changed out every run! Rather expensive! On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:
